Getting started
What is a VPS, and what is it used for?
A virtual private server (VPS) is made for hosting websites (e-commerce, content, media) and software applications (portals, extranets, collaborative solutions, wikis, CRM). Unlike shared hosting, the data is stored exclusively inside a virtual machine which is dedicated to the user.
The VPS is a perfect accommodation between web hosting plans and physical servers, integrating reliability with the high performance of a dedicated server, but without the difficulty of managing physical hardware.
Where is V.PS operated?
It is owned and operated by xTom OÜ (Estonia).
What virtualization technology does V.PS use?
We use Qemu/KVM on Proxmox VE across the product range.
Which SLA applies to my VPS?
V.PS offers a 99.9% SLA across the product range. You can check our uptime on the status page.
Locations & network
Where are your data centers located?
Can I test the network and speed?
Yes, every location has a looking glass with ping, traceroute and speed tests. Find them on the looking glass page.
What bandwidth is allocated to my VPS? Is it guaranteed?
We allocate each VPS with 1 TB bandwidth on a 1 Gbps port. For some Mini or Mini Pro plans, we allocate 500 or 600 GB bandwidth on a 400 or 500 Mbps port. Storage KVM VPS starts from 5 TB on a 1 Gbps port; Performance KVM VPS starts from 1 TB on a 1 Gbps port. We count both incoming and outgoing traffic. The bandwidth listed on our pricing page is guaranteed and is the minimum amount assigned to you.
What happens if the bandwidth limit is reached?
For Nano, Storage and Performance KVM VPS, we limit your port to between 1 and 10 Mbps when you reach the bandwidth limit. For all other VPS products, we suspend the VPS until the end of the month. You can upgrade your bandwidth at any time in the client area.
Do I have dedicated IPs for my VPS? Can I add more?
Yes, each VPS has 1 IPv4 and 1 IPv6 address. We can provide an additional /32 IPv4 and /48 IPv6 with extra setup and monthly fees; contact us for more information.
Which locations offer BGP sessions and IXP ports?
Currently we offer VPS with BGP sessions and LocIX, DE-CIX and AMS-IX ports in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Tallinn, London, San Jose, Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong and Sydney, with extra setup and monthly fees.
What ports do you block?
We block outgoing port 25 to prevent spamming. If you need port 25 for sending email, contact us or use a third-party email sending service.
Can I request to change the IP address?
We provide one free change within 24 hours of activation; after that, we charge 8 EUR per case. You may change IP once per month, and only IPv4 is applicable.
Using your VPS
Can I get access to the Proxmox VE control panel?
We do not offer access to the control panel itself, but you can manage your VPS from our client area.
Can I host several websites on a VPS?
Yes. A VPS is a truly dedicated system that can be configured to meet your individual needs, hosting several websites or projects with a private space or configuration for each one. To make this easy, install a web hosting control panel like DirectAdmin, Plesk or cPanel.
Which operating systems do you provide?
We provide Debian Stable, Ubuntu LTS, CentOS Stream, Rocky Linux and AlmaLinux. You can also install any OS via netboot.xyz.iso.
What software can I install on VPS hosting?
With VPS hosting you have a lot more control over the software on your server. Usually the only limits are the operating system and your total memory allotment.
You are not allowed to install pirated software, or use third-party software without a proper license or permission, on your VPS.
Is my VPS backed up?
V.PS does not take backups of the data hosted on your VPS by default. You are responsible for ensuring that your VPS is backed up.
The exceptions are Edge KVM VPS, which includes one backup slot, and Performance KVM VPS, which includes two.
Do you provide managed service for my VPS?
All VPS products are unmanaged by default. We can provide managed services at an hourly rate; contact us for more information.
Hosting
What control panel does shared hosting use?
cPanel. You manage sites, email accounts, FTP, databases and DNS from the standard cPanel interface.
Where are the shared hosting servers located?
In San Jose, California, at Equinix SV10, the same facility as our San Jose VPS range. Hosting runs on the same premium network, which you can test from the San Jose looking glass.
Can I see shared hosting running before I buy?
Yes. We keep a live WordPress demo on the shared platform at demo.sjc.roa.net/wordpress, so you can check real-world speed from where you are.
Does shared hosting include a dedicated IP?
Yes. Every plan, including Starter, comes with 1 dedicated IP address.
How is shared hosting billed?
Annually, with terms from 1 to 5 years. Prices start at €19.95 per year for Starter Hosting.
Domains
Is DNS hosting included?
Yes, every domain registered with V.PS includes free DNS hosting, managed from the client area. Common record types (A, AAAA, CNAME, TXT and more) are supported, and DNSSEC is available. The DNS service is for domains registered with V.PS only.
Is my WHOIS data hidden?
Yes. Your contact data is hidden in public WHOIS automatically, at no charge.
How do domain transfers in work?
A transfer costs the same as a one-year renewal and, per registry rules, extends your expiration date by one year (up to the 10-year maximum). One exception: if your old registrar just auto-renewed the domain, the registry replaces that renewal year with the transfer year instead of stacking both.
Can I transfer my domain out?
Yes, at any time and for free: get the auth code from the client area and start the transfer at your new registrar. The only restriction is the 60-day transfer lock that applies after a new registration or a previous transfer (an ICANN rule, not ours).
Can I push a domain to another V.PS account?
Yes, pushes between V.PS accounts are free and self-service in the client area.
What happens if my domain expires?
For .com, .net and .org, the registry gives you a grace period of up to 45 days after expiry to renew at the normal price. After that, the domain enters a 30-day redemption period where restoring costs €99.95, and is then released for anyone to register. Renew before expiry to stay safe.
Can I get a refund on a domain?
No. Domain registrations, transfers and restores are non-refundable once submitted to the registry; see the Terms of Service.
Will you support more TLDs?
Yes, more TLDs are coming. Right now we offer .com, .net and .org.
SSL
Which certificate do I need?
One domain: Domain SSL. All subdomains of a domain: Wildcard SSL. A service reached directly by IP address: Public IP SAN.
How is my SSL order validated?
All our certificates use Domain Validation: no documents to supply, no callbacks. You prove control of the domain via one of the available verification methods and the certificate is issued.
How do I generate the CSR for a Public IP SAN certificate?
Leave the common name empty: the CSR must be generated without any CN field. Only IPv4 is supported, the first two IPv4 addresses are included, and every address you need must be filled in on the SAN list.
Why is my certificate valid for less than a year?
CA/Browser Forum rules cap the lifetime of every issued TLS certificate at 200 days (since March 15, 2026; the cap drops to 100 days in March 2027 and 47 days in March 2029). Your one-year purchase still covers a full year: we reissue the certificate for free before each expiry until your term ends. Just reinstall the reissued certificate, or automate it.
Can I reissue a certificate or use it on several servers?
Yes. Domain SSL and Wildcard SSL come with unlimited free reissues and unlimited server licenses, so one certificate can run on all your servers and environments.
Can I get a refund on an SSL certificate?
Yes, all SSL products come with a 30-day money-back guarantee, for any reason.
Can I move an SSL certificate to another V.PS account?
Yes, account transfers for SSL products are free.
Billing & refunds
Is there a referral program? How does it work?
Yes, V.PS has a referral program. Refer other potential users to V.PS and earn credits through the program.
What payment methods do you support?
Currently we support PayPal, major credit cards, and bank transfer.
For some countries, we support local payment methods like Alipay, Bancontact, EPS, Giropay, iDEAL, Multibanco, Sofort and Przelewy24.
Do you offer a refund if I'm not satisfied?
You can request a refund within fourteen (14) calendar days for VPS products by submitting a ticket. We do not provide refunds for domain name registration, transfer and restore. We provide a 30-day money-back guarantee for all SSL products.
Refund exceptions apply in the following cases:

- Bank transfer payments are non-refundable.
- Renewal orders cannot be refunded.

Why was my order cancelled?

All orders are reviewed by our anti-fraud system as well as our own staff. If we find your order or information inaccurate or fraudulent, we will reject and refund your order.
Account & changes
Can I upgrade my VPS package?
Yes, you can upgrade at any time by submitting a ticket. For discounted products, we do not offer upgrade options at discounted pricing.
Do you allow service transfer?
- Account transfers for domain name registration and SSL products are free.
- For VPS products, we provide free transfers in these cases: transfers automated by the billing system (temporarily unavailable for technical reasons); accounts with active V Pack or Performance KVM products, for other services in the same location; and other situations where the operations team deems a transfer necessary.
- For some flash sale promotions, discounted products cannot be transferred; specific promotion rules apply.
- A VPS with an active BGP or IX service cannot be transferred, even if you have cancelled the BGP or IX service.
Do you allow service location migration?
No, we do not support migrating a service to another location. Order a new server in the target city and move your data, then cancel the old one.
